Mil Pasos

repeatilla. Siinä on jotain suloisen melankolista, hiipuvan kesän, lähestyvän syksyn, riipaisevan ikävän mutta tunnelmallisen lohdullisuuden maagista taikaa.

First of September. My sister sent me today this link and I have been listening it on repeat. There is something sweetly melancholic, magical,  longing but comforting. Farewell Summer, welcome Autumn.

Dear Friday, Have I Ever Told You How much I Love You?

Mitä teillä on ohjelmassa? Ihanaa viikonloppua!

I should fill in the tax declaration, do the homework for my German lessons, vacuum clean, fill the fridge and do my hair. BUT, the child is taking his nap, it is 22 degrees outside and the sun is shining gorgeously and Friday, my eternal love, is here. Instead I made myself a coffee, opened the balcony door, sat down on the most comfortable armchair, enjoyed the last Fazer Blue, admired lilacs and played this loud. This weekend I am going to clean up the terrace for the Summer, wander in the parks, have coffee with friends and kiss a lot (only Pepper and Pancho, not strangers). What are you up to? Have a LOVELY weekend!

4 Steps to Sound Asleep and Sweet Dreams

***
After 18 months of light "mother of a small baby"-sleep I thought that I have lost my ability to sleep deeply and sound. Luckily I was wrong and with a couple of little tricks, I have managed to call my sweet dreams back.

Here is my recipe stimulating all senses for peaceful and restfull good night sleep.

STEP 1
Kun on aika aloittaa iltatoimet, pyörähtää meillä soimaan australilaisen aboriginaalin, sokeana syntyneen Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu huikean haikean ihana (Panchon lahjaksi saama) Gurrumul-levy.
***
When it is time to start our bedtime routines, I put Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu on. He is an indigenous Australian musician, who sings in the Yolngu language and his album Gurrumul is sweetly melancholic and calming.

STEP 2
Minulla on kaksi suihkusaippuaa. Jo pelkästään Sabai-Arom Sleep Tight Shower Gel:n tuoksu saa minut lähestymään unenomaista tilaa.
***
I have two shower gels. One to boost me energy in the mornings and another to relax me before going to bed. Even the smell of my bedtime shower gel Sabai-Arom Sleep Tight Shower Gel sets me into sleepy mood and a long and warm shower takes care of the rest.

STEP 3
***
After the shower, when Geoffrey is still crooning, I enjoy a big cup of amazingly soporific Yogi Bedtime tea with chamomille, valerian and passionflower.

STEP 4
Menen sänkyyn, otan hyvän asennon, suljen silmäni enkä yritä nukahtaa vaan annan unen tulla.
***
I go to bed, take a good sleeping position and close my eyes. I don't try to get some sleep, I just let myself fall into it.

Kauniita unia kaunokaiset.

Sweet dreams sweethearts!

-ammatillisesta kunnioituksesta"

Hyvää viikonloppua ihanaiset, aiheeseen liittyen alla Tiburon (espanjaksi "hai"), yksi klassisista merenque-hiphop biiseistä sekä Proyecto Unon alkuperäisversiona että tämän kesän Henry Mendezin uutena remixinäkin. Luukuttakaa kummasta enemmän tykkäätte.

When I first visited Miami, I saw a shark. Me and a bunch of friends were walking on the beach and were in the middle of a conversation when suddenly we noticed that all swimmers had came out of the water and everyone were looking at the sea. We could hear everywhere "shark, shark, shark" and there it was: fin above the water, very close to the beach.

In addition to the shark, also a young blond woman was in the water and she was further away from the beach than the shark. There were only some tens of meters between the woman and the shark. All of the sudden the shark headed towards the woman. The woman panicked and tried desperately to run out of the water. Anyone who has tried to run in the water feet on the bottom, knows that it is a very slow way to move. People were holding their breaths except one afro-american guy who shouted out loud "swim, white bitch, SWIM". -and she did. The woman got out of the water and the shark swam away.

Few months later I signed up for Miamin Triathlon. It did not come to my mind that the swimming part of the triathlon would happen in the same water than I had seen the shark. The racers are taken early in the morning to a small island in front of Miami and they will swim 1.5 kilometers to the mainland. We were taken in the first boat before the dawn and it was still completely dark. The boat had to leave us quite far away from the island and we had to jump to the dark water. I almost hyperventilated thinking that the shark will naturally eat me, a rare delicacy, Nordic flesh. My friend quickly made up a story about meat thrown into the water outside of the triathlon area to attract the sharks away from the swimmers. I believed the story and controlled my panic. However, I would had been much calmer if I knew the joke below:

"Why won't sharks attack lawyers?
-Professional courtesy."

Have a lovely weekend sweethearts and find below Tiburon ("shark" in Spanish), one of the classic merenque-hip-hop songs, both the original Proyecto Uno version and this summer's hit version by Henry Mendez. Belt out which you like best.

The Power of Music

***

Last months we have listened mostly baby songs, occacionally radio or then nothing at all. I notice that I have been a bit tense lately. This morning I found my old iPod and connected to speakers in random mode. Oooh!

I have always connected certain music and songs to moments, moods, events and phases of life. Whenever I hear such songs, all those feelings, thoughts and memories come back. Today I have visited my teenager dreams in Caribbean, enjoyed my party-years in Mexico, casted (smiling) my mind back to  my old heartbreaks and danced with the Baby many moving songs.

The whole rainy and dark day is gone and the sun is shining in our living room. I am happy for each day and moment lived and experienced and happy to be have this life here today. This is exactly how things should have gone.

Related to these thoughts, may I present one of my all time favorites, Diego Torres Tratar de Estar Mejor
