My birthday was again in the middle of the darkest time of the year. This year it was special as we had just returned home from our travels, I totally forgot my birthday and remembered it just the (late) night before. I mentioned about it to Mr. Pepper and his face revealed that so did he. The fridge was completely empty due to our long absence but still my dear husband did prepare me an extempore surprise birthday breakfast in the morning. It was the most creative birthday breakfast ever, the card was home made in the middle of the night from left-over cards from our wedding, the "flowers" were from our olive tree and he woke up very early to get a croissant from the corner bakery. He even managed to find a small candle and the heart in the caffe latte was the cutest!

P.S. Check the beautiful lyrics of the Mexican birthday song Estas son las Mañanitas.

A Heart, Love and Frozen Mornings

Kun tapasin mieheni, olin juuri muuttanut Meksikosta Suomeen. Mieheni asui Ruotsissa, minulla oli koti Turussa ja silloinen työni vei minua ympäri Suomea. Eräänä maanantain aamuna Pepper joutui lähtemään aikaisella aamukoneella takaisin Tukholmaan ja minä jäin aamutoimiin. Kun itse lähdin pari tuntia myöhemmin, odotti minua parkkipaikalla mitä romanttisin tervehdys.

Viime yönä pakkanen oli saapunut kaupunkiin. Vieläkin, kuusi vuotta tapahtuneen jälkeen, sydämeni sykähtää nähdessäni huurteisen auton ikkunan.

I had just moved from Mexico to Finland when I met my husband-to-be. He lived in Sweden, I had home in Turku and worked around Finland. One Monday morning he had to catch a very early morning flight to Stockholm. When I left for work, a couple of hours later, the most romantic message was waiting for me in the parking lot.

Last night we got below 0 celcius. Still, after 6 years, my heart takes an extra beat when I see a frozen car window.
