10+ Best Practices for Travelling with Baby/Toddler

Pancho ja minä lähdemme huomenna Suomeen kesälomalle. Nuoresta iästään huolimatta (vuosi ja 10 kk) huomisaamun lento on Panchon 29. lento. Niistä 19 olemme lentäneet kahdestaan, ilman Pepperiä. Olemme käyneet Panchon kanssa kolmella eri mantereella, istuneet tuhansia kilometrejä autossa, (10 päivän road trip San Diegosta San Franciscoon lienee pisin) ja matkustaneet pitkiä matkoja junassa. Minulta kysytään usein vinkkejä lapsen kanssa matkustamiseen, joten tänään pakkaamisen lomassa listasin mitä olen parin vuoden aikana oppinut.
***
Tomorrow Pancho and I will travel to Finland to spend the summer with family and friends. Despite of his young age (22 months), tomorrow's flight will be Pancho's 29th. 19 of those flights I have taken alone with him without Pepper. We have travelled in three continents, driven thousands of kilometers in a car, including a 10 days road trip from San Diego to San Francisco and spent tens of hours in trains. I am often asked for tips on travelling with a baby/toddler so while I was packing today, I listed what I have learnt during the past two years. Here is a summary.

Mikäli koneessa on tilaa, pyydä check-in virkailijaa varaamaan myös viereinen istumapaikka. Tarvitset tilaa kaikelle kamalle ja kun lapsi osaa istua, on helpottavaa laittaa hänet hetkeksi sylistä omalle tuolille.

3. Expectations management on tärkeää: Selitä lapselle (jopa sylivauvalle) hyvissä ajoin etukäteen mitä lentokentällä ja lennolla tapahtuu. Toista tarina useasti ennen matkaa. Matkan edetessä selitä lapselle missä vaiheessa milloinkin ollaan ja kertaa mitä seuraavaksi tapahtuu.

4. Varaudu jo ennen matkaa siihen, että kaikki lentoyhtiöt/lentokentät eivät anna ottaa lastenvaunuja portille. Erityisesti Finnair on asiassa nihkeä.

Varaa pitkille matkoille muutama ylimääräinen setti vaihtovaatteita. Pidä aina käden ulottuvilla wipseja.

7. Mikäli matkustat lapsen kanssa yksin, suurin osa lentoemännistä pitää vauvaa mielellään vessakäyntisi aikana. Mikäli kohdallesi osuu kiireinen emo, katso muiden matkustajien joukosta ystävällisen ja isovanhemman näköinen ihminen ja pyydä reippaasti apua. Älä kuitenkaan koskaan anna lasta vieraalle paikassa, jossa joku saattaisi viedä lapsen. Suljettu lentokone lienee suht turvallinen.

8. Pitkillä lennoilla muista vieressä, edessä ja takana istuvia pienellä lahjapussilla, johon voit sujauttaa vaikka pari suklaata ja korvatulpat. Koristele kauniisti ja liitä kortti "I might be good, I might be bad, sorry if I make you mad. I hope these chocolates will sweeten up your flight. Br, [lapsen nimi ja ikä] ".

9. Varaa lennolle uusi lelu tai kirja, jonka uutuusarvo pitää mielenkiinnon yllä normaalia kauemmin.

+ Mikäli matkustat kohteeseen, johon on paljon aikaeroa, aloita lapsen rytmin muuttaminen jo päiviä ennen matkaa.

***
1. If possible, fly outside of peak hours when the airports more quiet and the flights are emptier. Avoid Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. If the flight is not fully-booked, ask at the check-in if the seat next to you can be blocked. You will appreciate the space for either all your stuff or just to put the child on his own seat for a moment (instead of holding the baby in your arms the whole fligh).

2.  On take-offs and landings hold the baby always facing front. In case of an emergeny braking,  holding the baby rear facing might be life-threatening.

3. Expectations management is the key: Explain to your child (even to a small baby) well in advance step by step what will happen on the airport and during the flight. Repeat the story several times before the trip. Explain again during the trip and  remind him/her what will happen next.

4. Be aware that all airlines/airports do not allow you to take the strollers to the gate. According to my experience Finnair is one of the worst. Bring a baby carrier/sling and make sure that you will be able to carry your  hand luggage even when having your baby in a carrier/toddler on your back.  Many airports may either loan or rent small strollers to be used at the airport but most of them are meant for babies who are already able to sit by themselves. However, some airlines may allow you to take an infant car seat on the plane, even if the strollers are not allowed. Note, especially if you are traveling alone with the baby, a car seat together with the baby weight a lot. Although the car seat is convenient to have the baby sit on it and on the plane you may place it on the seat next to you but carrying it across the airport might get a hard excersise. Also note that some airlines allow you to check-in either a stroller or a car seat but some of them allow both. Just make sure what you are allowed to take so you can avoid any upleasant (and expensive) surprises on the check-in.

5. If you are traveling alone with a baby, take a small blanket or other cover, on which you can lay the baby when you need to have both of your hands free or for example use the airport restrooms.

6. Bring an extra pair of clothes, not just for your child but also for yourself. Your child might vomit, pee, throw food or pour drinks on him/you. For longer trips, take at least two sets of extra clothes. Keep wipes always close by.

7. If you travel alone with a child, most of the flight attendants are kind and willing to help you on what ever you need, including holding your baby while you use the toilet. However, if the flight attendants are busy, look for a friendly and "grandmom" looking passenger and ask for help. (Note, never leave your child with unknown persons anywhere where somebody can take the baby. Airplanes with closed doors should be safe).

8. For long-haul flights prepare a small gift bag with some chocolates and ear plugs with a note:  "I might be good, I might be bad, sorry if I make you mad. I hope these chocolates will sweeten up your flight, [name of the baby and age]" and hand a bag for other passengers next, behind and in front of you.

9. Buy a new toy or a book for the flight.  The novelty of a new toy/book will keep the interest of the child longer.

10. In order to avoid ear ache, make sure that your baby is drinking and swallowing during the takeoff and landing. This can be done by breastfeeding, giving the bottle or providing fruit puree in a poche.

+ If you will travel to a destination with big time difference, start adapting your child's rhytm days before the trip. Even a couple of hours can help significantly the adaptation on arrival.

Luottokamat mukana matkoilla:
  • Manduca-kantoreppu.
Lisää loistavia vinkkejä yhdestä lempiblogistani A Cup of Jo:sta: Travelling with Baby ja 10 Ways to Entertain a Toddler on a Plane.

I never travel without:
  • Manduca Baby Carrier. Manduca is so easy to use, it is compact,  soft and easy to carry the child either on the front or on the back. Remember to practise putting child on and taking him/her off at home before you go.
  • I bought for Pancho a monkey backpack which is in fact a child harness.  There are many opinions on the use of child harness but I rather let the child walk on a harness than have him to sit on a stroller against his will. The harness has saved us from beign ran over by a car, getting lost, runnig away and above all, from a kidnapping attent (more about the subject later). The monkey backpack is super cute, it is soft, Pancho loves it and a little boy with a monkey on his back gets always a lot of positive comments wherever we go.
  • Aquaint, a 100% natural sanitizing water. It is a natural product that does not contain any alcohol or other harmful chemicals. You may even clean a pacifier and put it back to the child's mouth.
More great tips from one of my favorite blogs A Cup of Jo: Travelling with Baby ja 10 Ways to Entertain a Toddler on a Plane. In particular, I totally agree with Joanna's advice to sit on different rows with the other parent and change the babysitter on duty in every 2-3 hours (depending on the lenght of the flight):  Both parents will have possibility to  watch a movie, take a nap, read, listen to music, eat and drink. Also, the child will have some variety and  the change of environment and the nurse will help him not to get bored. Tried this and can warmly recommend!

I will come back with more tips on arrivals, what to take into account on hotels, restaurants and shopd when travelling with a baby/toddler. I would love to hear your best practises so please share on the comment box.

Happy and Safe Travels!

8 Surprising Things You Can Learn in a Fashion Show

Olin eilen Fashion Days muotinäytöksessä, jonka kaupungin hienot butiikit olivat yhdessä järjestäneet asiakkailleen. Ystäväni Mrs T oli saanut kaksi lippua ensimmäiselle riville aivan lavan viereen ja kutsui minut ystävällisesti seurakseen. Opin illan aikana yllättäviä asioita:

Tällä kertaa näkemättä jäi miltä näyttää ko. ikärakenteen fashion shown jatkobileet, joiden oli mainostettu jatkuvan aamuviiteen. Ehkä ensi vuonna sitten.

Onko sinulla mielenkiintoisia kokemuksia tai huomioita muotinäytöksistä?

Picture from here. Not related to last night's event.
***
Last night I went to a Fashion Days fashion show organized by the fine boutiques in town. My lovely friend Mrs T got two tickets in the front row and kindly asked me to accompany her. I learnt surprising things during the night:

1. The spot lights are merciless. If you sit in the first row, you will also be in the footlight all night. Luckily I had a blow-dry (how come I have not used wash&brush services before?!) and listened to my dear and talented stylist-friend Tuulia Alanen-Brandt's advices on the dress code. Even though the audience was dressed up surprisingly casually, I felt comfortable with my LBD and high heels. Apparently it was also ok to come in jeans.

2. The audience in a fashion show organized by boutiques was made up of more mature than young women. Could the reason be that most of the women only afford to shop their way to key customers in boutiques when they are a bit older?

3. Next summer it is trendy to wear white converse type of sneakers with any out-fit.

4. Foot tattoos seemed to be fashionable. Many of the models on the catwalk had a text or symbol in their ankle or instep (like this).

5. Towards the end of the fashion show the feet of the models had abrasions, contusions and blisters. Walking two hours with various unfit and uncomfortable shoes without socks can have a nasty outcome.

6. If an older man on the stage is rolling his eyes during the runway, you may do an assumption that he was forced/bribed/blackmailed to model in the show.

7. When young and handsome men enjoy dancing, the audience enjoys watching them.

8. Boutiques may have fans such as sports teams or rock bands do. There was a very stylish lady seated next to us who was just waiting for her favorite boutique to enter to the stage. Whenever the models of such boutique were on stage, she was applauding loud and cheering (note that the tapping was not for a specific designer or outfit but just for the boutique in question). As soon as the show of the particular boutique was over, the lady left as she "had seen the best". Wow, what a customer loyalty, I say!

Unfortunaly I could not figure out how is the after party of a such fashion show where the audience was mostly over their 45 but was advertised to party on until 5 am. Maybe next year.

Do you have interesting observations or funny experiences on fashion shows? I would love to hear!

Kimonos in Kyoto

Aya: Moshi moshi. Mitä kuuluu? Mikä meininki? Tehdäänkö tänään jotain hauskaa yhdessä? Lähdetäänkö kaupungille?

Haruka: Moshi moshi. Joo, mennäänkö Fushimi Inari Shrinelle ja Kiyomizudera temppelille?

Aya: Hai! Hyvä idea. Mitä sä puet?

Haruka: Mä ajattelin laittaa kimonon. Entä sä?

Aya: Hei mäkin laitan kimonon, cool. Nähdään kohta!

***
Aya: Moshi moshi. What's up? Shall we do something fun today?

Haruka: Moshi moshi. Yes, how about hanging around Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kiyomizudera Temple?

Aya: Hai! That's a good idea. What are you going to wear?

Haruka: I think I will wear a kimono.

Aya: Cool, I'll wear a kimono too. See you soon.

***
First I thought the girls were dressed up for the tourists. After a while I noticed many groups of girls in kimonos and they seemed to be groups of friends. Many of them were carrying shopping bags and were happy to pose to my camera without asking any money so eventually I understod that they were just spending a day together, hanging around with friends wearing kimonos. Later I was told that it is considered nostalgic and romantic to dress up in (own or rented) kimono and visit the historical sites of Kyoto. There are many places in Kyoto where you can rent the whole outfit with assistance on putting it on plus a hair do matching the outfit. If I only knew this before, I would have definitely spent a day in Kimono in Kyoto and Pancho would have looked like this.

6 Things You Should Know about Japanese Toilets

Paikan nimi on Kusni.

2. Yleisissä vessoissa on usein erillinen nappula, joilla häveliäimmät voivat strategisella hetkellä tilata veden lorinaa tai vale-vessanvetoäänen.

3. Asiat hoidettuasi voit omien mieltymystesi mukaisesti tilata monenlaisia suihkuja.

6. Älä koskaan painele nappeja vieressä seisten, vesi nimittäin tosiaan suihkuaa pöntöstä ylöspäin.

***
If you ever plan to use a toilet in Japan, you might find this information useful:

1. Toilet seats are heated and the heat may be controlled using a control panel attached either in the toilet seat or mounted on the wall. Our hotel room instructions stated that the heating should not be very hot if children or eldery are using the toilet.

2. Many public toilets have a button where the most bashful may play purl or fake flush at the strategic moment.

3. After you are done with your toilet business, you may choose different types of showers based on your needs and preferences. There are showers coming from the back and bidet type of showers coming from below and you may adjust the strenght of the spray (there might be even a massage function available (?!)).

4. When your butt is clean, it is time for a blow dry. The heat and volume of the blow may be adjusted.

5. Most of the toilets flush automatically but in some of them you might need to flush pushing a botton in the control panel or a separate botton somewhere in the toilet. Note that the botton is not necessarily next to the toilet seat. I read a story (of Mondo travel guide) that Whitney Houston had apologized a Finnish journalist in the ladies' room in Park Hotel and only afterwords the journalist understod the reason. Whitney did not know how to flush a japanese toilet.

And now, if you will only remember one thing about this post, here is the key:

6. Never push the bottons when standing next to the toilet unless your intention is to get wet. The water showers upwards!

Weather

Tiesittekö, että maailmassa on ainakin kolme Tokyo-nimistä kaupunkia. Säätiedotuksen mukaan huomiselle on luvattu seuraavaa:

Tokio, Japani +6
Tokio, Papua Uusi Guinea +11
Tokio, Nepal -16

On myös olemassa kaksi Kioto nimistä kaupunkia. Sääennuste ensi viikolle:

Kioto, Japani +9
Kioto. Kongon demokraattinen tasavalta +33

Jos ikinä matkustat näihin kaupunkeihin, suosittelen olemaan tarkkana matkalle pakatessa. Hellemekossa ja sandaaleissa kirsikkapuiden alla saattaa tulla vilu.

***

Did you know that there are three cities named Tokyo? Forecast for tomorrow:
Tokyo, Japan +6
Tokyo, Papua New Guinea +11
Tokyo, Nepal -16

There are also two cities named Kyoto in the world. The forecast for the next week:

Kioto, Japan +9
Kioto, Kongo +33

If you ever travel to any of these cities, I recommend to pay attention when checking the weather before packing for the trip. You might get cold wearing shorts and flip flops under the cherry blossom.

Freiburg, Freiburg, Same Same but Different

Teimme eilen päiväretken Saksan Freiburgiin. Jännitysmomentiksi Pepper osti automaatista junalipun Sveitsin Freiburgiin. Same same but diffent...Sain flashbackin eräästä junamatkasta vuosien takaa.
***
Yesterday we made a day trip to Freiburg in Germany. To spice up the day, Mr. Pepper bought from a ticket machine train tickets to Freiburg in Switzerland.  The face of the train conductor revealed that he noticed that we had a wrong ticket but he did not mind the details, stamped the ticket and wished us a pleasant journey. I just wonder, what if we meant to go to Freiburg in Switzerland, it would had been a surprise to notice that we are 200 kilometers too north. Same same but different...

Me valitsimme kioskin josta sai lammas-braatvurstia ja toscanalaista makkaraa. Valinta oli oikea.
***
In Freiburg we got a map from the tourist office and followed a beautiful city walking route which lead us to the main square. As I have mentioned previously here and here, I love saturday markets and I am always impressed how each market has its "own thing".  In Freiburg it is sausages. There were plenty of sausage kiosks next to each other and we picked the one selling lamb bratwurst and Toscana spiced bratwursts. We chose the right one, it was yummy!

Mielessäni pyörii eräs herkulliselta vaikuttava ohje, joten ostin pussillisen punajuuria. Kerron ensi viikolla lisää mitä niistä valmistin.
***
I've got an interesting and yummy recipe in my mind so I bought a bag of beetroot. I will tell you next week what I am planning to prepare.

Mikä suloinen torimummeli myymässä vihanneksia!
***
The sweetest granny selling vegetables!

Kävimme Freiburgin katedraalissa sytyttämässä kyntilän poisnukkuneille rakkaille ja ihastelemassa seimeä.
***
In Freiburg cathedral we lighted a candle to our loved ones who have already passed away.

Vanhan kaupungin lisäksi kävelimme hieman ydinkeskustan ulkopuolella löytääksemme ravintolan, jota eräs Freiburgissa muinoin asunut ystävämme suositteli. Kävely kannatti, sillä reitti kulki kauniin asuinalueen läpi ja myöhäinen lounaamme (home made kurpitsa gnocchi karamellisoiduilla kastanjoilla ja paistetulla salvialla sekä lohi-sitruuna tagliatelle) oli erinomainen Omas Küche:ssä.
***
In addition to the old town we explored some blocks away from the center to find a restaurant recommended by one friend of ours who has lived in Freiburg. It was worth of the walk as the route took us to a beautiful residential area and the late lunch/early dinner (home made squash gnocchi with caramelized chestnuts and fried sage and salmon-lemon tagliatelle) we had in Omas Küche was excellent.

Kotiin paluussa ei ollut ongelmaa, tarkastin kuitenkin varmuuden vuoksi, ettei kotikaupungiltamme löydy kaimoja lähistöltä.
***
Our return trip to home was good. Just in case I double-checked that there are no namesakes for our hometown around.

The Swiss Way

Olemme oleskelleet Sveitsissä puoli vuotta ja olen havainnut asuinympäristöstäni seuraavia piirteitä:

Vaatimattomuus

Myyjä kipakkana: "No onko teillä nespresso laite vai ei? Jokaisella nespressolaitteen omistajalla on asiakasnumero!!"

Palaan asiaan taas puolen vuoden kuluttua. Katsotaan mitä silloin olen oppinut.

We have lived in Switzerland for 6 months. I have observed the following:

The Swiss are modest

- A Swiss says she/he doesn't speak English or speaks just a little English even though the hearer will notice after a couple of minutes of conversation that in fact she/he speaks good English if not even very good English.

- Swiss cars have the biggest engines and there are more horsepower per capita in Switzerland than in any other country in the world. However you can't see it (just hear it) as the cars rarely have a mark of such engine.

- You don't talk about money. You just have it.

The Swiss are organized and process oriented

- Switzerland is a clean and tidy country. In our home town everybody must use blue garbage bags which are sold in super market cashiers. Each plastic bag cost approx. 2 euros and the price includes the waste tax. Garbage bags should be left on the streets on Monday and Thursday evenings as the garbage truck comes to collect them on Tuesday and Friday mornings. It is not allowed to leave them out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or when your need to get rid of your full garbage bags is biggest for example when you have cleaned a fish, your baby has diarrhea or you have just missed the garbage truck by 5 minutes. If you don't obey this rule and do leave your garbage bag on the street on a wrong day, there might be a sticker on the bag stating the right days for such activity or the man in the next building can shout you words with a voice that makes you happy for not understanding Swiss German. I have also heard that if the official garbage bag is not used, they might go through the content of the bag and investigate who has used an non-official garbage bag.

The Swiss are kind, helpful, honest and nice but if something doesn't go with the process, they get upset. I have made a woman in a Nespresso store angry because I didn't know the customer number of the nespresso machine in the temporary apartment we lived for a month. The shop assistant: "Every nespresso machine owner has a customer number!!! Do you have a nespresso machine or not?!!"
Me: "No, we don't have a nespresso machine, I would just like to buy this coffee capsules because they come in such a beautiful colors..."

I have also upset a woman selling chocolate. There are big chocolate bars available in the store and the seller lady breaks a piece of such bar based on the size the customer wants. The lady breaks a piece of approx half kilo. Me: "I would just like to taste these chocolates, could I please have a smaller piece?". The lady breaks a 300 g piece. Me: "I am sorry, a smaller piece would be just fine" The lady breaks a 150 g piece. Me: "Oh, I am not familiar with these chocolates and I would like to taste many flavors, could I please have just a tiny piece".  The lady with an angry voice: "Do you want this chocolate or not?"

Swiss are afraid of cold and wind

When the weather outside gets colder the shops, restaurants, trams and other public places get hot. If it is +12 outside, the temperature inside might be close to +25. So if you visit us during the cold season, wear a t-shirt under and a thick, coat which is easy to take of over it. During the summer the swiss don't like to open the tram or buss windows even if it is +32 as they believe that the air might give you a flu.

Other interesting observations

- Swiss like puncutuality. If you arrive to a meeting 10 minutes before the scheduled and the other person is already waiting for you, it is polite to apology for being late.

- Swiss like to swim in strange places. You may check this out here and here.

I will come back to this in 6 months. Let's see what I have learnt by then.

California Highlights

Oi oi oi mikä ikävä Kaliforniaan! Viikonlopun kunniaksi pieni kuvakimara olkaa hyvä.
***
Oh, how I already miss California! Here are some pictures of the highlights of our trip.

Roadtripin ensimmäisellä etapilla San Diegosta Laguna Beachille osui lounaaksi tämä Cardiffin Chart Housen bento box...
***
On our drive from San Diego to Laguna Beach we had this bento box in Chart House in Cardiff...

...jota nauttiessa katselimme näitä maisemia.
***
...while enjoying the lunch, we admired this view.

Jos jätät huoneesi parvekkeen oven auki Laguna Beachin Surf and Sand:ssa, voit nukahtaa aaltojen hellään pauhuun. Aamulla voit toivottaa hyväthuomenet  delfiineille.
***
If you leave your room's balcony door open in Surf and Sand, you can listen the sweet lullaby played by the waves. In the morning you may greet the dolphins.

Mitäs sanotte, vaihtaisitteko oman eteiskäytävänne maiseman tähän?
***
Would you change your hallway view for this, what do you say?

Pikkusurffari aaltoja odottamassa.

Yksi Kalifornian suloistakin suloisemmista auringonlaskuista.

The Surf City USA, Huntington Beach

Saavuimme Palm Springsiin myöhään illalla ja Pancho piti saada heti nukkumaan. Huoneessamme oli viehättävä terassi, joten tilasimme huonepalvelusta täydellisen illallisen viinipullon & kynttilän kera ja nautimme yhden matkan parhaista illallisista. Levolliset unet varmistimme vastaleivotuilla lämpimillä suklaakekseillä ja lasillisella kylmää maitoa, mmmmm.
***
We arrived Palm Springs late in the evening and had to get Pancho to bed asap. Luckily Viceroy Palm Springs has a good restaurant and the chef was still willing to cook for us so the room service delivered an excellent dinner with a bottle of tasty Californian red and a candle to our terrace. And for the dessert in the desert we had warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with a class a cold milk. Boy, we slept delicious that night.

We liked Palm Springs. We spent a couple of days and a couple of credit cards in Desert Hill Premium Outlet so all the christmas presents are now done and Pancho has clothes for the next year. The hotels were chick, cool and reasonable priced. We learnt that there is a Gay Pride on the first week of November, you may see the biggest fake dinosaurs in Palm Springs and Elvis carried his Priscilla over the doormat in their Honeymoon apartment in Palm Springs. We also learnt that eggs benedict (prepared in various ways) and breakfast burritos are popular on the breakfast menus and a child's side order of 4 slices of cucumber, 4 slices of tomato and 4 slices of avocado may cost one dollar each slice (12 USD in total and he didn't even finish them...). We saw the biggest wind turbine parks and noticed that the days in the desert are very hot and the nights are surprisingly cold. All in all, Tzinzi Travels highly recommends Palm Springs.

Vuokrasimme pyörät Venice Beachillä ja pyöräilimme koko rannan aina Santa Monica pierille asti. Miten onnellista!!
***
We rented bikes on Venice Beach and cycled all the way up to Santa Monica Pier (and a little further). Oh how happy I was!!

Santa Monica

***
The ultimate highlight of our trip was a stay in Ojai Valley Inn &  Spa but that is a whole new story. I'll tell you more next time. Now it is time to sleep.
Have a great weekend darlings!

California Part I- San Diego

Voitteko uskoa, että tuo kaktus kuvaa (minun mielestäni) parhaiten San Diegon vanhan kaupungin tunnelmaa? Totta se on, tulkaa vaikka itse katsomaan.
***
Can you believe that (in my opinion) this cactus best represents the atmosphere in San Diego Old Town? It is true, come and see!

***
Can you believe that this is the sign of one of San Diego's (historical) main streets? It is true, the trolley tour guide told me.

***
Can you believe that I have had an over priced manicure and pedicure, washed laundry, got almost robbed and bought a buss ticket in the Gaslamp Quarter but have not eaten there? It's true, ask Pancho.

***
Can you believe that sometimes it looks more like Mexico than US here? It's true, look at this picture.

***
Can you belive that Pancho and I spent the whole day in San Diego Zoo and we could only visit 1/3 of the animals shown in the map? It's true, let's amaze that together.

***
Can you believe that there was a baby giraffe in the zoo? It's true, look at these "tiny" legs.

***
Can you believe that koala is San Diego State's unofficial mascot? Might be true as that's what they said in the zoo tour although I can't find such information in the web.

Voitteko uskoa, että kuuluisan Hotel del Coronadon terassilla on samaan aikaan iltapäiväkännibileet noidille live bandeinneen kun samaisen hotellin puutarhassa 50 metrin päässä oli häät. Totta se on, kysykää vaikka niiltä tuhansilta ihmisiltä joita siellä oli turisteina ihmettelemässä Marilyn Monroen "Some like it hot"-elokuvan kulisseja.
***
Can you believe that there was an afternoon terrace party for witches with live band and the same time just 50 meters away a garden wedding in the famous Hotel Del Coronado. It's true, ask all those thousands of tourist who witnessed the both happenings and admired the scene where Marilyn Monroe's "Some like it hot" has been filmed.

***
Can you believe that Dr. Beach has chosen Coronado Beach the beach of the year 2012? Beaches in Hawaiji and Florida among others took also part to the contest but this one ruled. It's true, look at this fine sand.

***
Can you believe that I truly desire to run these stairs up and down? It's true, ask me after a couple of days if I did.

Rakastamme San Diegoa, lisää kuvia myöhemmin.
***
We love San Diego, more pictures coming up later.
