8 Surprising Things You Can Learn in a Fashion Show

Olin eilen Fashion Days muotinäytöksessä, jonka kaupungin hienot butiikit olivat yhdessä järjestäneet asiakkailleen. Ystäväni Mrs T oli saanut kaksi lippua ensimmäiselle riville aivan lavan viereen ja kutsui minut ystävällisesti seurakseen. Opin illan aikana yllättäviä asioita:

Tällä kertaa näkemättä jäi miltä näyttää ko. ikärakenteen fashion shown jatkobileet, joiden oli mainostettu jatkuvan aamuviiteen. Ehkä ensi vuonna sitten.

Onko sinulla mielenkiintoisia kokemuksia tai huomioita muotinäytöksistä?

Last night I went to a Fashion Days fashion show organized by the fine boutiques in town. My lovely friend Mrs T got two tickets in the front row and kindly asked me to accompany her. I learnt surprising things during the night:

1. The spot lights are merciless. If you sit in the first row, you will also be in the footlight all night. Luckily I had a blow-dry (how come I have not used wash&brush services before?!) and listened to my dear and talented stylist-friend Tuulia Alanen-Brandt's advices on the dress code. Even though the audience was dressed up surprisingly casually, I felt comfortable with my LBD and high heels. Apparently it was also ok to come in jeans.

2. The audience in a fashion show organized by boutiques was made up of more mature than young women. Could the reason be that most of the women only afford to shop their way to key customers in boutiques when they are a bit older?

3. Next summer it is trendy to wear white converse type of sneakers with any out-fit.

4. Foot tattoos seemed to be fashionable. Many of the models on the catwalk had a text or symbol in their ankle or instep (like this).

5. Towards the end of the fashion show the feet of the models had abrasions, contusions and blisters. Walking two hours with various unfit and uncomfortable shoes without socks can have a nasty outcome.

6. If an older man on the stage is rolling his eyes during the runway, you may do an assumption that he was forced/bribed/blackmailed to model in the show.

7. When young and handsome men enjoy dancing, the audience enjoys watching them.

8. Boutiques may have fans such as sports teams or rock bands do. There was a very stylish lady seated next to us who was just waiting for her favorite boutique to enter to the stage. Whenever the models of such boutique were on stage, she was applauding loud and cheering (note that the tapping was not for a specific designer or outfit but just for the boutique in question). As soon as the show of the particular boutique was over, the lady left as she "had seen the best". Wow, what a customer loyalty, I say!

Unfortunaly I could not figure out how is the after party of a such fashion show where the audience was mostly over their 45 but was advertised to party on until 5 am. Maybe next year.

Do you have interesting observations or funny experiences on fashion shows? I would love to hear!

Kimonos in Kyoto

Aya: Moshi moshi. Mitä kuuluu? Mikä meininki? Tehdäänkö tänään jotain hauskaa yhdessä? Lähdetäänkö kaupungille?

Haruka: Moshi moshi. Joo, mennäänkö Fushimi Inari Shrinelle ja Kiyomizudera temppelille?

Aya: Hai! Hyvä idea. Mitä sä puet?

Haruka: Mä ajattelin laittaa kimonon. Entä sä?

Aya: Hei mäkin laitan kimonon, cool. Nähdään kohta!

Aya: Moshi moshi. What's up? Shall we do something fun today?

Haruka: Moshi moshi. Yes, how about hanging around Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kiyomizudera Temple?

Aya: Hai! That's a good idea. What are you going to wear?

Haruka: I think I will wear a kimono.

Aya: Cool, I'll wear a kimono too. See you soon.

First I thought the girls were dressed up for the tourists. After a while I noticed many groups of girls in kimonos and they seemed to be groups of friends. Many of them were carrying shopping bags and were happy to pose to my camera without asking any money so eventually I understod that they were just spending a day together, hanging around with friends wearing kimonos. Later I was told that it is considered nostalgic and romantic to dress up in (own or rented) kimono and visit the historical sites of Kyoto. There are many places in Kyoto where you can rent the whole outfit with assistance on putting it on plus a hair do matching the outfit. If I only knew this before, I would have definitely spent a day in Kimono in Kyoto and Pancho would have looked like this.

Spring 2014 Fashion Trends

P.S. Muistatteko tämän nuoren trendsetter japanittaren?

***
I met my goddaughter. She had chosen her outfit by herself and borrowed the necklace from her mother. She has excellent interpretation of this spring's fashion trends taken into account that she is only six years old: galligaskis (loose bottom), white shirt with lace sleeves (lace and cheer), golden bolero (metal colors and short tops), hair done (braid) and trendy necklace (fringes, pastel pink). The young fashionista was barefooted inside and got worried when I suggested taking the picture outside. The right shoes for this outfit were still in the storage for the winter.

P.S. Do you remember this young japanese trendsetter?
