Pariisissa piipahdimme eräässä Vintage liikkeessä, jossa ihastuin mielestäni hurmaavaan lattiatyynyyn. Tyynyn koko oli kuitenkin liian suuri junalla kuljetettavaksi mutta jutusteltuani hetken myyjän kanssa, selvisi, että hän oli tulossa seuraavana viikonloppuna Belfortiin, missä pidetään joka kuukauden ensimmäinen sunnuntai Ranskan TOP 5 kuuluvat kirpputori-antiikki-vintage-torimarkkinat. Myyjä lupautui tuomaan tyynyn autollaan mikäli niin haluaisin. Otin tyynystä pari kuvaa ja aloitin Pepperin pehmittämisen. Koska tyynyn kuvio oli Missoni-henkinen, ylipuhuminen olikin yllätyksekseni helpompaa kuin olin kuvitellut ja päätös lähteä Ranskan puolelle tyynynhakureissulle syntyi ilahduttavan helposti. Rakas ystävämme Herra Tonnikala oli meillä käymässä samaisena viikonloppuna ja niinpä kauniina ja aurinkoisena sunnuntaina starttasimme moottorin ja ajoimme Ranskaan. Belfortissa on linnoitus, jonka edustan pikkukadut ja kujat olivat suljettuja liikenteeltä ja valloitettu myyjien pöydillä ja innokkailla asiakkailla.

When we were in Paris, we visited a small vintage shop where I found a cool floor cushion. The cushion was too big to be taken with me in the train but after a short chat with the owner, she told me that she would be the following weekend in Belfort which is located only 40 kilometers from Basel. There is a huge flea/vintage/antiques street market every first Sunday of the month and it is considered one of the TOP 5 flea markets in France. She promised to take the cushion to Belfort in her car in case I wanted. I took a couple of pictures and started to convince Mr. Pepper to buy it. I did not have a place where to put it but as the cushion remotely looks like Missoni pattern, it was easier to convince him than I expected. On that weekend our dear friend Mr Tuna was visiting us from Finland so we all hopped in a car and drove to France. There is a fortress in Belfort and all the small streets around it were closed for the traffic and filled with sellers and happy buyers.

Löysin Cecilen sattumalta heti ensimmäiseltä kadulta ja tyynyn lisäksi hänen valikoimastaan löytyi huikean kauniita vintage vaatteita ja merkkikenkiä. Bongasin häneltä ja parilta muulta myyjältä mm. Chanelia, Dioria, Louis Vuittonia, Louboutania, Hermesiä ynnä muuta hurmaavaa. Mitenkään Turun tai Helsingin kirpputoreja aliarvioimatta, en ole aikaisemmin nähnyt vastaavaa.

I found Cecile (the owner of the vintage shop in Paris) by coincidence in the first corner just when we arrived and in addition to the cushion, she had a beautiful selection of vintage clothes and shoes from Chanel, Dior, Hermés. I also found Louboutin and Louis Vuitton shoes which would unfortunately not be the case in the Finnish flea markets.

Myynnissä oli myös herkullisia huonekaluja, hauskoja leluja, kauniita astioita, erikoisia tauluja, vaikka mitä kippoja, toisia mokomia kuppeja, isoja peilejä, you name it, they have it! Tyynyn lisäksi löysimme Pepperille antiikkisen shampanja coolerin ja Pancholle mitä ihanimman lelun: puisen rumpalipojan, joka rummuttaa, kun lelua vetää narusta perässään. Pancho sai lelun heti käyttöönsä ja herätti ihastuneita huokauksia ja hyväntahtoista naurua ohikulkijoiden joukossa. Lapsen riemu on tarttuvaa!

We also found cool furniture, funny toys, original frames, big mirrors, beautiful glasses, old botlles, you name, they have it. Pepper found an antique champagne cooler for him and Pancho got the most charming toy: a wooden drummer who drums when he pulls the string. Pancho played with his new (old) toy the whole afternoon and got many smiles from the people around. The joy of a child is contagious!
Kierreltyämme ja tutkittuamme kaikki ihanat tarjolla olleet aarteet, nautimme hurmaavan ranskalaisen lounaan eräässä aukiota kehystävistä ravintolassa. Jos ikinä olet lähellä Belfortia kuun ensimmäinen sunnuntai, aamupäivä markkinoilla on visiitin arvoinen!

After exploring the market, we had a pleasant French lunch in one of the restaurants surrounding the square. It was such a beautiful Sunday, if you will ever be around on the first Sunday of the month, it is definitely worth of a visit!
